About Sable

Aerial Coach - Teacher Trainer - Feldenkrais Practitioner

I am a master aerial coach with thirteen years of experience. I focus on strong progressions and body mechanical technique in training, and expressive musicality in performance. I am learned in anatomy and physiology as applied to aerial movement, and have taught hundreds of recreational and professional level students how to practice aerials safely. My own experience with disabling hypermobile-type Ehlers Danlos, a hypermobility disorder, and its detrimental effect on my aerial training and performance career, has led me to focus on body mechanics and somatic awareness as primary to safe movement technique.

When it comes to teaching movement, I believe that all the technique and awareness in the world is useless if students are encouraged (or required) to ignore their needs, whether those be physical or emotional. I seek to create a learning environment that centers and nurtures students’ sense of agency in their learning and in their bodies.

I also believe in teaching the “why” of movement and deepening students’ understanding of the skills they are learning, enabling them to train and create on their own; to do more than simply memorize and repeat lists of tricks. My professional students have been able to use this understanding to create their own unique movement styles and skills.

I am committed to tapping into the potential that aerial movement has to be a powerful expressive art form. I bring dramaturgical and choreographic rigor to my act creation processes, and love giving students, including beginner recreational level students, the tools to be expressive artists creating work that has real meaning and impact beyond aesthetics.
